The National COVID-19 Taskforce informs the public that there are individuals who resorted to misinformation and illegal approaches for inter-district movements, compromising COVID-19 protocols and even contracting the disease.

While only genuine, “stranded” cases where individuals left away from the place of residence are being assisted upon verification, it has come to the notice of the taskforce that some individuals have taken advantage of the system in place. And today, a few of those individuals are COVID-19 positive.

In this light, the NC19TF reminds everyone that any breach in the COVID-19 protocols will be dealt strictly. It includes payment for quarantine and isolation facilities, investigation by the Royal Bhutan Police and prosecution under the Penal Code of Bhutan.

Please be reminded that the inter-district movement is not allowed until further notice. We are dealing with Omicron variant, which is highly transmissible. Our people should understand that you could infect the entire household or community all at once, within no time. The risk it poses to vulnerable family members, including children, is incomprehensible.

Should everyone follow the COVID-19 protocols with diligence, we will be able to focus on curtailing the disease spread sooner. To win this fight, we have to work together.
