Lyonchhen Dr Lotay Tshering interacted with the local leaders of over 200 gewogs on the ongoing COVID-19 vaccine registration and the preparations for the upcoming rollout program. This follows the virtual discussions with the Dzongdas last week.

Lyonchhen informed the gups, mangmis and tshogpas that the vaccine offers opportunity to protect oneself from the disease and that our people should be aware of the fact.
Being closest to the people, he urged them to help people understand the advantages of taking the vaccine, and facilitate in registration and coordination. After empowering people with all the information, it is for them to decide whether they want to receive the vaccine or not.
Lyonchhen elaborated on the developments circling the vaccine around the world, its safety standards and possible side-effects, and the arrival and the preparations back home for the nationwide vaccination.
While the dates will be announced soon, there will be no “lockdown” as rumoured, although restriction of inter-district movement will be considered during the vaccination week for proper management of the campaign.
Questions from the local leaders included eligibility of vaccine for old age and co-morbid people, possible reactions, coverage for the herders, and the logistics.
Home minister Dasho Sherub Gyeltshen also joined the session.
