This evening, Lyonchhen Dr Lotay Tshering attended the launch of Population Projections Report 2017-2047.
At the event, Lyonchhen thanked the National Statistical Bureau for the statistical data based from the 2017 Population and Housing Census of Bhutan.
The report which supersedes the earlier population projections 2005-2030 shows that while Bhutan does not face the prospect of rapid population growth; Bhutan has reached the stage of low fertility and mortality rates in demographic transitions.
Lyonchhen said that the fertility rate of 1.9 is a concern and assured the support of the government in proposing policies and plans in accordance with the report and strengthening the social, educational and health services.
The Population Projection Report is an initiative of the National Statistical Bureau based on the 2017 Population and Housing Census of Bhutan.
Home Minister Sherub Gyeltshen, Speaker of the National Assembly of Bhutan Wangchuk Namgay, Opposition Leader (Dr) Pema Gyamtsho, Members of Parliament and other guests attended the launch.
