Lyonchhen Dr Lotay Tshering met Her Excellency Ms. Karin Kneissl, Federal Minister for Europe, Integration and Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Austria on 23rd February, 2019.
Lyonchhen welcomed Her Excellency Ms. Karin Kneissl and her delegation to Bhutan.
The first association of Bhutan and Austria happened with the import of Haflinger horses from Austria.
Since then, Austria and Bhutan have shared cooperation in areas of energy supply and strengthening the rule of law.
Lyonchhen thanked Austria for their support thus far.
He highlighted the importance of rural electrification.
Austria was involved in the construction of the Rangjung and Basochhu hydropower stations. For the construction of Dagachu hydropower station, Austria provided technical expertise and loan finances.
Formal diplomatic relations between Bhutan and the Republic of Austria were established in 1989.
