Just as the official inauguration was being held, telephones were ringing one after the other at the Public Service Call Center (PSCC) in Thimphu.
The operators at the Youth Development Fund were facilitating people to register inquiries related to travel, health inquiries, procedures and registration with the Check Post Management System.
Cabinet Secretary Sangay Duba at the inaugural highlighted the concerns of the Prime Minister on public service delivery and how it must be swift, accessible and informative at all times.
A number of agencies took to announcing multiple toll free numbers when Bhutan experienced its first lockdown. Realising the inconvenience it has caused, and drawing lessons from the experience, the government took over the 1010 helpdesk to create an integrated public service call center. This center will respond both at normal and emergency times.
This being the first step, the center in the long-run will become one-point contact number to offer public services that will also streamline and consolidate all other toll-free numbers.
